A quarterback in High School, Tannehill moved to wide receiver for three years but ended up winning the starting quarterback job midway through his junior year, leading his team to 6 straight wins after taking over.

There are two sides of the coin when it comes to Ryan Tannehill and his well-documented lack of experience. Some scouts will see it as an area of concern and will question whether his immense potential will ever materialize at the NFL level. Others will look at his accomplishments and the skill set he’s shown over a short period of time and will rave about the possibilities with more experience and consistent coaching.

Either way, Tannehill has all the tools to succeed. He has a strong arm, plants his back foot well and drives the ball down the field. He has good pocket sense, with the speed to do some damage in the open field if he breaks contain. He has all the intangibles you look for – leadership, character, intelligence – and his team seems to rally around him. He is a raw prospect but, in time, with his tools, he could develop into a franchise quarterback.

Compares to (Current NFL Player): Alex Smith

Strengths
- Prototypical size, solid arm, has no problem sticking the deep out
- Former wide receiver, can make plays with his legs
- Comfortable throwing on the run with accuracy in either direction
- Despite lack of experience, drops back easily when under center and progresses through his reads

Weaknesses
- Lack of experience at quarterback, has only started 18 games in college
- Tends to sail his passes when he doesn’t set his feet and square his shoulders
- Lacks touch on shorter routes, doesn’t always put the ball where his receivers can make a play
- Will need to work on consistency/technique to improve deep ball accuracy
