NFL 2012 Power Mock

It's a power ranking! It's a mock draft! Drafttek prepares it's weekly power rankings using a consensus opinion of it's analysts. Then we pass the ranking order through our computerized draft model to identify 3 players who might be under consideration by the team for the 2013 NFL Draft.

2012 Power Mock Week 7
October 16, 2012

We speculated last week that the Atlanta Falcons would have trouble with the Oakland Raiders, and that prediction held true. But the Falcons held on for their 6th win against no losses. With Houston's loss to the Packers, Atlanta remains the sole unbeaten and now holds down the top spot in the week 7 NFL power ranking. For this week, the Giants and Packers resembled Super Bowl juggernauts by winning road victories against powerhouses San Francisco and Houston. However this season has been characterized by an inability of teams to bring dominant play into successive weeks.

The Cleaveland Browns escaped the winless column in week 6 by trumping the downstate Bengals. But despite starting the season 0-5, the Browns have played more competitively than certain other teams. Jacksonville is a team in disarray right now and moves into the bottom spot in our power ranking - or conversly the top spot in the mock draft.

It's time for them to clean house in the coaching staff and front office. They also need a truly good quarterback. Bringing in a No. 1 overall quarterback, an intelligent general manager and a head coach like Mike Zimmer could lead to 2008 Falcons level results.

No point in winning a 3rd game, make Kansas City sweat that 1st overall pick . . . oh wait they're playing at Denver, never mind! According to reports, Shahid Khan is planning a "fruit basket turnover" in the Jaguars front office . . . the new braintrust should listen to offers for #2!

Oakland mercilessly ends the first season under GM Reggie McKenzie, who had a difficult time fielding a competitive squad after all of the salary cap reconstruction. It will be a long road in Raider Nation, but McKenzie has a plan to pull them out of the black hole. -MP

The Eagles 2012 season was their worst since 1998 (3-13), which prompted the hiring of... Andy Reid, who just got fired. Where does Philly go now? Will a college coach "come on down"? Or will a former NFL head coach or current coordinator get the job? A plethora of names are out there.

News Flash! Cardinals fire GM Rod Graves and HC Ken Whisenhunt . . . now, altogether a collective "Gasp!" (Yeah, right!) More importantly, how do the Cardinals plan to address the QB position? That should be the first question from any applicant interviewing for either job.

In a remake of "Bad News Bears", Chicago (10-6) beat the Lions (4-12) 26-24 to have a chance at the playoffs; alas, it was not to be so HC Lovie Smith was fired. So tell me, how does HC Jim Schwartz keep his job? Why, it's due to the "high character" players on the Lions' roster . . . LOL!

A painful season ends in Buffalo the same way - a generally strong defensive performance offset by offensive ineptitude. Fans would've liked to see another helping of Greg McElroy at QB, but were instead treated to a painful encore performance by Mark Sanchez.

Despite all of the talk about total focus on stopping Adrian Peterson, the Packers had no answer for Peterson. Add to that some poor tackling and you have 199 yards and a win for the desperate Vikings. See you at Lambeau, Vikes!

Titans finish off a disappointing 2012 campaign at 6-10, winning a meaningless game against an even more moribund Jacksonville team. The Titans appear to have lots of talent - a few key pickups in the offseason could return them to prominence in 2013.

His players fought hard to the end, but Norv Turner will not be back with the Chargers next year, nor will AJ Smith. I don't know if there's a coach who could have done better with the roster Norv had, but fresh blood across the board should be good for this team.

If I told you the team would finish 7-9 with a 1st time head coach and rookie QB before the season began you'd be ecstatic. However a shutout loss to the rival Patriots in the final game leaves a sour aftertaste despite the promising season.

Carolina gets a good win to end the season on and possibly even save Ron Rivera's job... for a season. Carolina won 5 of its last 6 games to finish strong and show that they are just a few pieces away. They would be best to bring in a scout as a GM who can build their defense.

The Rams decidedly finished the season on a strong note. They played a white-hot Seattle team even throughout most of the game on Sunday. With a stifling defense and two first round draft picks, things are looking promising for 2013.

A great defensive effort in the last game of the season helps Tampa Bay win "their Super Bowl" against the leagues leading team. The Falcons certainly did not lay down in a meaningless game, but playing without any desperation can have its disadvantages.

Drew Brees eclipsed 5,000 yards passing for a record 3rd season, but with a porous defense that has plagued the team all year, New Orleans drops their final contest of the year to division rival Carolina. It marks the first losing season for the Saints since 2007.
