Cameron Newton Auburn QB Reach/Value: -9 |
Height: 6'6" Weight: 250 |
CMD#31 Pre-Draft Pick Cameron Newton Live Mock Simulated Pick Cameron Newton |
| No Surprise here at Newton was a widely anticipated selection. He carries quite a bit of baggage and hasn't played in many actual games. But Newton has tremendous upside. A "B" grade due to high bust potential |
| 2 | Denver |
Von Miller Texas A&M OLB43 Reach/Value: +0 |
Height: 6'3" Weight: 246 |
CMD#31 Pre-Draft Pick Marcell Dareus Live Mock Simulated Pick Von Miller |
| Good foot speed for a defensive interior linemen. Good size, solid 5-tech DT who has long arms and continually plays low with great leverage. Good pass rusher and very powerful. Should give the Bills that push up front they've been seeking. Dareus will now try to "warm things up" in Buffalo. Grade: A |
| 3 | Buffalo |
Marcell Dareus Alabama DE34 Reach/Value: +0 |

A.J. Green Georgia WRF Reach/Value: +0 |
Height: 6'4" Weight: 205 |
CMD#31 Pre-Draft Pick A.J. Green Live Mock Simulated Pick A.J. Green |
| This is the pick many believed the Bengals would make; we were all right. WR was a hige need & they get arguably the best overall player in the entire draft at 4. Sure they need a QB & they're taking a gamble that one will be available in round 2. But Green is a better player than Gabbert or the others. Best player available, right? Grade: A |
| 5 | Arizona |
Patrick Peterson LSU CB Reach/Value: +4 |
Height: 6'0" Weight: 219 |
CMD#31 Pre-Draft Pick Patrick Peterson Live Mock Simulated Pick Patrick Peterson |
| While I think Blaine Gabbert should have been the choice, its hard to argue against Patrick Peterson. Peterson was the number one player on most people's boards and presents great value here. While the secondary wasn't a major need, DRC regressed and Greg Toler is better suited for the slot anyway. Peterson and DRC should be a great starting tandem and be the most athletic CB tandem, maybe the most athletic in the history of the NFL. Grade: A- |
| 6 | Atlanta |
Julio Jones Alabama WRF Reach/Value: -3 |
Height: 6'4" Weight: 212 |
CMD#31 Pre-Draft Pick Robert Quinn Live Mock Simulated Pick Robert Quinn |
| Wow the Falcons gave up a lot to move here. But they got what they wanted, a dynamic WR to pair with Roddy White to give Matt Ryan another threat. Opposing defenses can't be happy. This fills a need nicely, but the price was high. Grade: B+ |
| 7 | San Francisco |
Aldon Smith Missouri OLB34 Reach/Value: -10 |
Height: 6'4" Weight: 263 |
CMD#31 Pre-Draft Pick Blaine Gabbert Live Mock Simulated Pick Blaine Gabbert |
| The first real surprise. The Missouri pass rusher comes off the board very early; don't think I ever saw him mocked earlier than 11 to Houston. However, rush OLB was a need for the 49ers so it may not be as surprising after thinking it over. With Peterson gone Smith makes sense, especially since many thought Robert Quinn could be an option. Fills a need but was it the best value? Grade: B |
| 8 | Tennessee |
Jake Locker Washington QB Reach/Value: -23 |
Height: 6'3 Weight: 231 |
CMD#31 Pre-Draft Pick Da'Quan Bowers Live Mock Simulated Pick Blaine Gabbert |
| The "Locker Shocker" as are our Bills analyst Dean Kindig referred to it moments after the pick was made. Incredible selection of a QB with many, many areas of concern for most pro scouts heading into the 2011 Draft. Strong arm, strong running with the ball, but still has major questions surrounding many facets of his overall game. Good pick for need but was it the best value? Grade: B |

| 9 | Dallas |
Tyron Smith USC LOT Reach/Value: -3 |
Height: 6'5" Weight: 307 |
CMD#31 Pre-Draft Pick J.J. Watt Live Mock Simulated Pick J.J. Watt |
| Jerry Jones takes an offensive tackle in the top 2 rounds for the first time since 1999 and it was absolutely the right call. With the fragile Tony Romo not getting any younger, and with the two legitimate downfield threats in Austin and Bryant, the Cowboys need to keep their quarterback on his feet and give him some time to throw. Smith provides the 'Boys with a bookend tackle opposite Doug Free, however they end up lining up, who has arguably the highest upside of any offensive lineman in the draft. Grade: A- |
| 10 | Jacksonville |
Blaine Gabbert Missouri QB Reach/Value: +3 |
Height: 6'4" Weight: 234 |
CMD#31 Pre-Draft Pick Julio Jones Live Mock Simulated Pick Robert Quinn |
| Many still consider Gabbert a risk coming out of a spread offense and and is mostly a one-read thrower for the Tigers. However, Gabbert shows solid accuracy and has a good understanding of defensive alignment and varying offensive schemes. Quick release, good pocket presence and has a high ceiling. Grade: B+ |
| 11 | Houston |
J.J. Watt Wisconsin DE34 Reach/Value: -2 |
Height: 6'5" Weight: 290 |
CMD#31 Pre-Draft Pick Nick Fairley Live Mock Simulated Pick Nick Fairley |
| Arguably the best 3-4 DE in the draft, Watt is a perfect fit for Wade Phillips' defence and should have an immediate impact on this team. However, they have to believe that by improving their pass rush, they'll consequently end up improving the pass defence. The good thing is, there are still good CBs available, whereas they likely wouldn't find a talent like Watt later on. Grade B+ |
| 12 | Minnesota |
Christian Ponder Florida State QB Reach/Value: -31 |
Height: 6'2" Weight: 229 |
CMD#31 Pre-Draft Pick Cameron Jordan Live Mock Simulated Pick Cameron Jordan |
| Though I'm still in shock with this pick, I have to believe the Vikings brass believe the risk here is minimal and/or calculated. Ponder had a stellar junior year, but dealt with injuries in his senior season, which is the reason his stocked dropped. He's intelligent, interviews well and has been labelled as the ideal West Coast QB. We'll see. In 3 years, I hope this grade is an A. Grade: B- |
| 13 | Detroit |
Nick Fairley Auburn DT43 Reach/Value: +5 |
Height: 6'4" Weight: 298 |
CMD#31 Pre-Draft Pick Tyron Smith Live Mock Simulated Pick Prince Amukamara |
| Wow. The Lions reportedly wanted to trade out but why? Pairing a guy that could have been the #1 pick with Suh? How will opposing OL stop them? I love this pick. It solidifies their DL & was great value. Grade: A |
| 14 | St Louis |
Robert Quinn North Carolina DE43 Reach/Value: +9 |
Height: 6'4" Weight: 265 |
CMD#31 Pre-Draft Pick Prince Amukamara Live Mock Simulated Pick Cameron Jordan |
| The Rams get a true value here, needing a DE opposite Chris Long they nab Robert Quinn. Quinn is quick and explosive, fluid and a good tackler. He needs to work on his strength and getting started after the snap. Once he strength conditions he should be the perfect compliment for the determined Long. Quinn has Top 10 talent and current ability making it an easy choice for Spagnuolo Grade: A |
| 15 | Miami |
Mike Pouncey Florida OG Reach/Value: -19 |
Height: 6'5" Weight: 303 |
CMD#31 Pre-Draft Pick Mike Pouncey Live Mock Simulated Pick Mike Pouncey |
| Not in love with this pick mostly because he isn't as good as his brother (taken 17th last year) & was drafted a lot on pedigree. He is an upgrade for their OL, however. He should start at OG (with Incognito at OC). We did nail this pick in the latest CMD, much like the rest of the Draft community. Grade: B |
| 16 | Washington |
Ryan Kerrigan Purdue OLB34 Reach/Value: +0 |
Height: 6'4" Weight: 267 |
CMD#31 Pre-Draft Pick Ryan Kerrigan Live Mock Simulated Pick Ryan Kerrigan |
| Great job by Washington to trade down, add picks, and still get a great prospect. Kerrigan isn't the best athlete but he is tenacious & always gives his all. He has some versatility, possibly being able to play 3-4 OLB, though he's best with his hand on the ground. Kerrigan & Orakpo could be nightmarish for opposing offenses. Grade: A- |
