Round 6
Intro
After every NFL draft, pundits come out and proclaim the draft's winners and losers. An exercise in speculation, since none of the players drafted has played a single down of pro football. But now that the 2010 draft class has completed their rookie seasons, we can go back to the 2010 draft and determine which teams have the early lead. But it will be a couple more year until we're prepared to proclaim victors.
A few years ago, Drafttek.com devised a scoring system which assigned points to each team's draft picks. Points are assigned according to how well a player is performing. In the early rounds, draft picks are supposed to do well, so we do not assign too many points for successful picks. In the later rounds, successes are rewarded much more generously. Alternately, 1st round flops are punished severely, while 7th round cuts are almost expected.
Scoring System
Round 6 scoring concept is below. Player evaluations for each selection are further below:
Category A (400 points) - A regular starter already! Player was not drafted to start but a pleasant surprise. Sky's the limit
Category B (200 points) - Getting a decent amount playing time. Seems on track to become a regular starter or valuable backup or rotational guy.
Category C (50 points) - Minor contributor on Offense or Defense, or Special Teams contributor. With hard work in the off season, hopeful that next year player will develop into a solid asset to the team.
Category D (0 points) - Not contributing in any meaningful manner - or placed practice squad. Hoping player will work hard in the off season and next year will develop into a solid contributor
Category E (0 points) - Bust. Cut.
Injured Reserve - Rookies who went on IR early on, without an opportunity to contribute, are assigned a score of 0 and grade of "C-IR".
Kickers/Punters - If these guys are drafted, they're expected to start. Scoring is +100 for success and -100 for failure no matter the round
Offensive Linemen - Rookie Offensive Linemen may not play at all. Scoring/Grading are based upon position on depth chart in such cases.

| Bowden was expected to take over the Bucs Punting responsibilities for 2011, but was cut on September 6, then again from the practice squad on September 14th. Currently not on an NFL roster. Tampa Bay may draft another in 2011 as their 2010 Punters (Chris Bryan and Robert Malone) flailed near the bottom of the league. |

| Injury may have been a factor in limiting Dixon's late season opportunities, but his stat line was disappointing. He could play a very large role given Westbrook's status, and will need to find another gear to improve on his 3.4 yards/carry average. Participated in 134 offensive snaps over all 16 games as a rookie, with 70 rushing attempts for 237 yds and 2 TDS. |

| Hardy appeared in 15 games, recording 30 tackles, 3 sacks, 1 pass defended and 2 forced fumbles. Hardy at one time was a top-10 player on Drafttek's preseason boards. However injuries and questions about consistency and work ethic pushed him down the charts. Still he was expected to be drafted in the 3rd or 4th round, but slid all the way to #175. Good production for a 6th rounder. |

| It's rough being the 3rd QB -- but Smith appeared in 2 games, starting 1 and completed 20 of 40 passes for 200 yards, no TD's and 4 Int's -- a QB rating of 25.0. Questions surround the Titans at the moment but Vince Young is on the way out & Kerry Collins' future is up in the air. Smith should keep the QB3 job or perhaps become the primary backup in 2011. |

| Mitchell is buried on a Browns depth chart, one that is bereft of playmakers. The Browns need weapons for Colt McCoy and Mitchell is anything but. He participated in just 12 offensive snaps as a rookie, with no catches to his credit. |

| Moats is the pass rusher the Bills wished Maybin was. His 2nd half of the season was impressive, especially compared to the underwhelming Bills draft class. Moved to OLB in the middle of the season and showed glimpses of good things to come. Appeared in 15 games & started final 4. Played 402 snaps on defense & racked up 33 tackles & 2.5 sacks, including one that ended Favre's career. |

Played in 2 games (week 7 for Miami, week 16 for Dallas) for a grand total of 4 snaps. |

| Goethel earned the praise of the coaches in camp with his attitude and work ethic. His back surgery early in the season kept him as a reserve player, but Goethel was able to see the field and make some special teams plays. Over the last 8 games, he racked up 9 total tackles (6 solo, 3 assist), but also had games where he had no impact. |

| After 4 years at SDSU as starting DE, Batten was lined up as an OLB in the spring and training camp, and has now been learning the ILB position while rehabbing his surgically repaired shoulder. I applaud the switch because I especially like Batten's ability to play off blocks in the run game, and am convinced he could be a starter next to Poz within two years. |

A steal for Ted Thompson. |

Helped clinched Divisional Rd victory over Ravens with 58 yd reception. |
