Draft Tek Classic Mock - Mike Schottey 1st Round (17 -32)
Mike's Mock Revision #4
April 23, 2009

17) New York Jets (9-7) Chris Wells(RB Ohio State)
I think the Jets are going to take the BPA offensive skill player. If Maclin and/or Sanchez are available (or they trade up) then those will be the pick. Otherwise, Wells helps out a team whose RB (Thomas Jones) passed the magical 30 year old mark.

18) Denver--from Chicago (9-7) Robert Ayers (DE/OLB Tennesee)
After grabbing a great thumper in the middle, Denver is able to get a speed rusher who is also decent against the run. The ability to grab two LBs of this caliber will keep Denver from trading up.

19) Tampa Bay (9-7) Aaron Maybin (DE Penn State)
I don't know if Freeman in much better than the QB situation already in Tampa Bay and I think they will opt for a speed rusher to pair with Gaines Adams giving their defense a look it hasn't had since the Superbowl days.

20) Detroit--from Dallas (9-7) Michael Oher (OT Ole Miss)
Oher is a top talent who suffers from gaps in concentration. Whenever Detroit grabs a QB, they will have his protection.

21) Philadelphia (9-6-1) Brandon Pettigrew(TE Oklahoma State)
All of a sudden this pick is in question if Philly ends up with Gonzalez on draft day. I would change it to a WR but they could end up with Boldin too. Either pick here helps the team urgently trying to keep McNabb happy.

22) Minnesota (10-6) Hakeem Nicks (WR North Carolina)
The Vikings don't need a center and are completely happy with John Sullivan. If they weren't, they wouldn't have let Matt Birk walk. They do need a WR to pair with speedster Berrian.

23) New England (11-5) Everette Brown (OLB/DE Florida State)
I know I know, New England doesn't spend high picks on linebackers Mayo crushed that theory last year and a pass rusher is their biggest need.

24) Atlanta (11-5) Darius Butler (CB Connecticut)
It would be a great move to take Pettigrew (if he was here) to help Ryan but with no skill talent left as a value, Atlanta takes a lesser need and locks up one side of the field with Butler.

25) Miami (11-5) Vontae Davis (CB Illinois)
Davis has all the talent in the world. I don't know if he's a "Parcells" guy but his speed and athleticism could make him too good to pass up. He may have to sit a year in the nickle.

26) Baltimore (11-5) Darius Heyward-Bey(WR Maryland)
This pick is for my collegue and #1 Ravens' fan, Paul Taylor. DHB provides Flacco a target he can't overthrow and makes this offense multifaceted like it hasn't been since Dilfer was leading the show.

27) Indianapolis (12-4) Evander Hood (DT Missouri)
Evander Hood is decent against the run--something no one on the Indy D-line can say. His measurables are too good to pass up.

28) Buffalo from Philadelphia-from Carolina (12-4) Alex Mack (C California)
Peters is gone and replacing him has to be a top priority but there isn't a top LT left. There is a top interior lineman available. Mack can play any of the three positions and probably start them as well.

29) New York Giants (12-4) Clay Matthews (OLB USC)
If Matthews or another impressive pass rusher falls here, Braylon Edwards could end up in a Giants' uniform within minutes (With Kiwi heading to the Browns)

30) Tennessee (13-3) Sean Smith(CB/S Utah)
Tennesee needs a DT a WR and a CB somewhere in this draft. CB is the least reach here with a few good choices. Smith has the toughness Tennesee likes out of its CBs

31) Arizona (9-7) Donald Brown (RB Connecticut)
Arizona need to have an answer at RB. Tim Hightower has skills but isn't a feature back. Donald Brown is very consistant and could be a steady hand--although Arizona needs bodies up front as well.

32) Pittsbugh (12-4) Eben Britton (OT Arizona)
Britton is about a half inch in arm length away from being an elite LT prospect. As one of the best PAC-10 linemen in history he has a chance to be a very special blocker--something the Steelers are missing. At worst case scenario he is a better RT or OG than what they have.
