Round 6
Intro
After every NFL draft, pundits come out and proclaim the draft's winners and losers. An exercise in speculation, since none of the players drafted has played a single down of pro football. But now that the 2010 draft class has completed their rookie seasons, we can go back to the 2010 draft and determine which teams have the early lead. But it will be a couple more year until we're prepared to proclaim victors.
A few years ago, Drafttek.com devised a scoring system which assigned points to each team's draft picks. Points are assigned according to how well a player is performing. In the early rounds, draft picks are supposed to do well, so we do not assign too many points for successful picks. In the later rounds, successes are rewarded much more generously. Alternately, 1st round flops are punished severely, while 7th round cuts are almost expected.

Scoring System
Round 6 scoring concept is below. Player evaluations for each selection are further below:
Category A (400 points) - A regular starter already! Player was not drafted to start but a pleasant surprise. Sky's the limit
Category B (200 points) - Getting a decent amount playing time. Seems on track to become a regular starter or valuable backup or rotational guy.
Category C (50 points) - Minor contributor on Offense or Defense, or Special Teams contributor. With hard work in the off season, hopeful that next year player will develop into a solid asset to the team.
Category D (0 points) - Not contributing in any meaningful manner - or placed practice squad. Hoping player will work hard in the off season and next year will develop into a solid contributor
Category E (0 points) - Bust. Cut.
Injured Reserve - Rookies who went on IR early on, without an opportunity to contribute, are assigned a score of 0 and grade of "C-IR".
Kickers/Punters - If these guys are drafted, they're expected to start. Scoring is +100 for success and -100 for failure no matter the round
Offensive Linemen - Rookie Offensive Linemen may not play at all. Scoring/Grading are based upon position on depth chart in such cases.

| 170 | St Louis |
Fendi Onobun Houston TE Reach/Value: -39 |
GRADE C- SCORE 25 |
| Fendi, a basketball convert, is ahead of schedule. A pick seemed destined for the practice squad for seasoning, he actually made the active roster and played in 3 games, recording 2 catches in 20 snaps. |
| 171 | Atlanta |
Shann Schillinger Montana S Reach/Value: -140 |
GRADE C SCORE 50 |
| Was a good ST guy for Atlanta this season, gunning down the field on kickoffs. Played in 15 games as a rookie. Took a few snaps on defense as well at Strong Safety - well, 3 to be exact. |
| 172 | Tampa Bay |
Brent Bowden Virginia Tech P Reach/Value: -71 |
GRADE E SCORE -100 |
| Bowden was expected to take over the Bucs Punting responsibilities for 2011, but was cut on September 6, then again from the practice squad on September 14th. Currently not on an NFL roster. Tampa Bay may draft another in 2011 as their 2010 Punters (Chris Bryan and Robert Malone) flailed near the bottom of the league. |
| 173 | San Francisco |
Anthony Dixon Mississippi State RB Reach/Value: +64 |
GRADE B-/C+ SCORE 100 |
| Injury may have been a factor in limiting Dixon's late season opportunities, but his stat line was disappointing. He could play a very large role given Westbrook's status, and will need to find another gear to improve on his 3.4 yards/carry average. Participated in 134 offensive snaps over all 16 games as a rookie, with 70 rushing attempts for 237 yds and 2 TDS. |
| 174 | Washington |
Dennis Morris Louisiana Tech TE Reach/Value: -284 |
GRADE E SCORE 0 |
| It was a dark and dreery night on August 30, 2010 . . . the Shanahan Clan decided to trade Morris to the St. Louis Rams for another rookie, LB Hall Davis of Louisiana-Lafayette. The Rams then released him. No NFL statistics yet. |
| 175 | Carolina |
Greg Hardy Ole Miss DE Reach/Value: +78 |
GRADE B SCORE 200 |
| Hardy appeared in 15 games, recording 30 tackles, 3 sacks, 1 pass defended and 2 forced fumbles. Hardy at one time was a top-10 player on Drafttek's preseason boards. However injuries and questions about consistency and work ethic pushed him down the charts. Still he was expected to be drafted in the 3rd or 4th round, but slid all the way to #175. Good production for a 6th rounder. |
| 176 | Tennessee |
Rusty Smith Florida Atlantic QB Reach/Value: -280 |
GRADE C/C+ SCORE 50 |
| It's rough being the 3rd QB -- but Smith appeared in 2 games, starting 1 and completed 20 of 40 passes for 200 yards, no TD's and 4 Int's -- a QB rating of 25.0. Questions surround the Titans at the moment but Vince Young is on the way out & Kerry Collins' future is up in the air. Smith should keep the QB3 job or perhaps become the primary backup in 2011. |
| 177 | Cleveland |
Carlton Mitchell South Florida WR Reach/Value: +108 |
GRADE C- SCORE 10 |
| Mitchell is buried on a Browns depth chart, one that is bereft of playmakers. The Browns need weapons for Colt McCoy and Mitchell is anything but. He participated in just 12 offensive snaps as a rookie, with no catches to his credit. |
| 178 | Buffalo |
Arthur Moats James Madison DE Reach/Value: -1 |
GRADE B/B+ SCORE 225 |
| Moats is the pass rusher the Bills wished Maybin was. His 2nd half of the season was impressive, especially compared to the underwhelming Bills draft class. Moved to OLB in the middle of the season and showed glimpses of good things to come. Appeared in 15 games & started final 4. Played 402 snaps on defense & racked up 33 tackles & 2.5 sacks, including one that ended Favre's career. |
| 179 | Dallas |
Sam Young Notre Dame OT Reach/Value: -10 |
GRADE D SCORE 0 |
| Columbo's replacement at RT??? Only activated for the last 2 games of the season and has a lot of work to do in the off-season. |
| 180 | Jacksonville |
Deji Karim Southern Illinois RB Reach/Value: -38 |
GRADE B-/C+ SCORE 75 |
| This change of pace back has worked his way onto the roster as the #1 KR. He appeared in the last 11 games, gaining 160 yards rushing the football on 35 carries, and adding 10 yards on 3 receptions. |
| 181 | Chicago |
Dan LeFevour Central Michigan QB Reach/Value: +87 |
GRADE C/C- SCORE 25 |
| The Bengals claimed LeFevour off waivers from the Bears prior to the start of the regular season -- he appeared in no games for the Bengals. Gets a "C" for hanging around the depth chart as the 3rd QB. |
| 182 | San Francisco |
Nate Byham Pittsburgh TE Reach/Value: -8 |
GRADE B/B- SCORE 150 |
| Byham was drafted for his blocking ability -- he appeared in 14 games, starting 3, logging 164 offensive snaps & catching 5 balls for 27 yards. |
| 183 | Denver |
Eric Olsen Notre Dame C Reach/Value: +18 |
GRADE C- SCORE 25 |
| Appeared in just 1 game during rookie season. On active roster, however contributing little. Third teamer. Will need to improve in offseason to move up depth chart. No NFL statistics of note. |
| 184 | NY Giants |
Adrian Tracy William & Mary LB Reach/Value: -22 |
GRADE C-IR SCORE 0 |
| Adrian Tracy injured his elbow in camp, and was placed on IR before the season began. We'll see if he can compete for the OLB spot next year. |
| 185 | Seattle |
Anthony McCoy USC TE Reach/Value: +97 |
GRADE C/C- SCORE 25 |
| Played sparingly in 2010, seeing a little action (only 37 snaps) in just two games and not compiling any statistics while doing so. Huge Value Pick - Drafttek had McCoy as a top-100 player. Perhaps McCoy can make a greater impact in 2011. |
|
|
| 186 | Cleveland |
Clifton Geathers South Carolina DE Reach/Value: +33 |
GRADE E SCORE 0 |
| Geathers was released prior to the start of the regular season & claimed by the Dolphins, who released him at the end of November. He was signed by the Seahawks for less than 2 weeks before again being released. He wound up in Dallas for the remainder of the season. Played in 2 games (week 7 for Miami, week 16 for Dallas) for a grand total of 4 snaps. |
| 187 | Houston |
Shelley Smith Colorado State G Reach/Value: -7 |
GRADE C- SCORE 10 |
| Practice squad member that was on & off 53-man roster. Active for 8 games but made no appearances. Disappointing for team lacking OG depth. |
| 188 | Pittsburgh |
Jonathan Dwyer Georgia Tech RB Reach/Value: +136 |
GRADE C SCORE 25 |
| Dwyer is the last pony in the stable. As such he's only been active once when another back was down due to injury. He's only gotten a few touches to grind out the clock at the end of games. Played 15 offensive snaps in week 17, carrying the ball 9 times for 28 yards. Dwyer was another massive draft day plunger - some pre-draft mock had him going in the 1st round. |
| 189 | St Louis |
Eugene Sims West Texas A&M DE Reach/Value: -311 |
GRADE B/B- SCORE 150 |
| Sims saw some snaps in the Rams defensive rotation in the second half of the season, playing in 9 games and even recording a safety, not bad for a 6th round pick out of a Division 2 school. Lets see if Sims can improve on his 98 snaps, and 8 tackles in 2011. |
| 190 | Oakland |
Travis Goethel Arizona State LB Reach/Value: -46 |
GRADE C/C- SCORE 25 |
| Goethel earned the praise of the coaches in camp with his attitude and work ethic. His back surgery early in the season kept him as a reserve player, but Goethel was able to see the field and make some special teams plays. Over the last 8 games, he racked up 9 total tackles (6 solo, 3 assist), but also had games where he had no impact. |
| 191 | Cincinnati |
Dezmon Briscoe Kansas WR Reach/Value: +43 |
GRADE E SCORE 0 |
| Depth of Cincy WR corps this season doomed the flashy collegiate WR. Was waived at end of preseason but signed with Tampa Bay's practice squad instead of the Bengals. Eventually activated by Bucs and appeared in final 2 regular season games, catching 6 balls for 93 yards and 1 TD. Cincy probably wishes they could have kept him. |
| 192 | Buffalo |
Danny Batten South Dakota State LB Reach/Value: -35 |
GRADE C-IR SCORE 0 |
| After 4 years at SDSU as starting DE, Batten was lined up as an OLB in the spring and training camp, and has now been learning the ILB position while rehabbing his surgically repaired shoulder. I applaud the switch because I especially like Batten's ability to play off blocks in the run game, and am convinced he could be a starter next to Poz within two years. |
| 193 | Green Bay |
James Starks Buffalo RB Reach/Value: +47 |
GRADE A-/B+ SCORE 250 |
| Playoff hero was on PUP for a good part of the season, Starks was brought along slowly and has made an impact for the Packers in several late games (59 offensive snaps) and the playoffs (119). 29 rushing atts for 101 yds in regular season; 70 atts, 263 yds, 1 TD so far in playoffs. A steal for Ted Thompson. |
| 194 | Baltimore |
Ramon Harewood Morehouse OT Reach/Value: -58 |
GRADE C-IR SCORE 0 |
| Harewood was placed on IR prior to the start of the regular season and had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee and an "open procedure" on his right knee. He is still viewed as a potential starter at LOT in the future. |
| 195 | Pittsburgh |
Antonio Brown Central Michigan WR Reach/Value: +9 |
GRADE B/B- SCORE 150 |
| Brown has a lot of speed and elusive run after the catch ability. He's currently the #4 receiver on the team and is active on return and coverage in special teams where he's returned one kickoff for a touchdown. 16 catches, 167 yards in 9 regular season games, 4 catches 89 yards so far in playoffs. Helped clinched Divisional Rd victory over Ravens with 58 yd reception. |
| 196 | Dallas |
Jamar Wall Texas Tech CB Reach/Value: -30 |
GRADE E SCORE 0 |
| Never figured it out -- McCann, an UDFA from SMU made the team -- 'nuff said! Bounced from Dallas to Houston before landing in Philly. No meaningful stats. |
| 197 | Houston |
Trindon Holliday LSU KR Reach/Value: -143 |
GRADE C-IR SCORE 0 |
| Never, never, never draft a KR -- did you expect anything other than injured reserve for a 5'5" 166 lb player??? |
| 198 | Carolina |
David Gettis Baylor WR Reach/Value: -12 |
GRADE A-/B+ SCORE 250 |
| The rookie wideout from Baylor saw action in all but one game in 2010, starting 13! Ending the year with just over 500 yards receiving and 3 TD's. He averaged almost 14 yards per each of his 37 receptions. Played 707 offensive snaps plus returned 9 kicks. |
| 199 | Minnesota |
Joe Webb UAB QB Reach/Value: +32 |
GRADE B SCORE 200 |
| A diamond in the rough? The athletic QB appeared in 5 games, starting 2 after Favre's injury and completed 54 of 89 passes for 477 yards, no TD's and 3 Int's for a QB rating of 60.9. He also rushed for 120 yards on 18 carries and scored 2 TD's -- might just be the future! |
| 200 | Philadelphia |
Charles Scott LSU RB Reach/Value: +26 |
GRADE D SCORE 0 |
| Scott's NFL journey started quite oddly. Less than 3 months after signing his rookie deal with Philly he was traded to Arizona. The Cardinals added him to their practice squad after training camp. He lasted there a whole 2 days before being signed by the Giants, where he remains now. Received Jorrick Calvin in the trade. |
| 201 | Arizona |
Jorrick Calvin Troy CB Reach/Value: -267 |
GRADE E SCORE 0 |
| Calvin was traded before the start of the regular season for fellow rookie Charles Scott from Philadelphia. For the Eagles he appeared in 12 games, primarily on special teams returning kicks (32 for 692 yds). Saw 8 snaps at CB. |
| 202 | Carolina |
Jordan Pugh Texas A&M CB Reach/Value: -299 |
GRADE B/B- SCORE 150 |
| Pugh appeared in 14 games, starting 2 and recorded 13 tackles, 3 passes defended and 1 INT. Played extensively in games 4 and 5 (116 of his 135 snaps), but was relegated to spot duty after that. Also participated on special teams. |
| 203 | Jacksonville |
Scotty McGee James Madison KR Reach/Value: -300 |
GRADE D SCORE 0 |
| Never, never, never draft a KR -- has not appeared in a game and was beat out by RB Deji Karim. On 53-man roster for first 2 weeks then demoted to practice squad. |
| 204 | Carolina |
Tony Pike Cincinnati QB Reach/Value: +130 |
GRADE C+ SCORE 75 |
| Only appeared in 1 game, completed 6 of 12 passes for 47 yards for a 60.1 QB rating. Will fight Clausen to be starter in 2011. |
| 205 | New England |
Ted Larsen NC State C Reach/Value: +22 |
GRADE E SCORE 0 |
| He's a starter, but not with New England. Released by the Patriots, he was claimed by Tampa Bay where he started the final 11 games at OG, playing 652 offensive snaps. Nice selection, but they abandoned him too early. |
| 206 | San Francisco |
Kyle Williams Arizona State WR Reach/Value: -35 |
GRADE C- SCORE 10 |
| Appeared in 5 games (no starts), just 3 snaps, catching 1 pass for 8 yards. |
| 207 | Tennessee |
Myron Rolle Florida State S Reach/Value: +19 |
GRADE D SCORE 0 |
| Practice squad player with no game appearances. |
