There are a myriad of reasons why Atlanta should trade down and accumulate picks to flesh out a roster that has the fewest players under contract and one of the worst cap situations. However, if they do stay put, Penei Sewell would be a strong selection with the fourth pick. Arthur Smith saw in Tennessee the merits of building from the trenches, and Sewell would give them a lot of options.

Moving on from Kaleb McGary seems premature but might be necessary, and while Jake Matthews is a rock solid LT, he could be a Pro Bowl LG or an attractive trade piece. Sewell has the makings of a franchise LT, and those are as rare or rarer than franchise QBs. The Falcons have invested a lot in their offensive line, but this pick might be too good to pass up.

Atlanta released Rico Allen, a great story rising from being a 5th-round pick to leading the secondary. With Keanu Neal a free agent, the Falcons' roster depth at Safety is the worst at any position group. Forget improving talent; there simply aren't enough players. Moehrig would be a replacement for Allen at Free Safety, and likely an improvement, sooner rather than later. He's shown he can be a versatile centerfield safety in zone, a fluid blanket in man, and a reliable tackler/turnover creator Winner 2020 Paycom Jim Thorpe Award.

FALCONS HISTORICAL DRAFT PICKS
Reach/Value (R/V) Explained
The difference between where a player is selected in the NFL draft versus where the player was listed on the final Drafttek Big Board for the season in question.Example: A player who was listed at #50 on the Big Board and was selected at #35 will be a "Reach" of -15. Alternately, a player listed at #35 on the Big Board who was selected at #50 is a +15 "Value".
Simply put: a positive number is a Value pick, a negative number is a Reach.
