Despite the winless record, there was still a lot of anticipation for the visit of Miami to Met Life. Sam Darnold, back after missing the last few games with a recurring shoulder issue, would finally take the field with the "A-Team" starting at WR. Fans would finally get to see what Darnold could do with all 3 of Perriman, Mims, and Crowder on the field at the same time. Unfortunately for Sam, it was business as usual, with the same kind of erratic performance with the trio than the previous games without them.

The Jets accumulated just 3 combined points in 2 full games against Miami (an unwanted franchise record), a team who themselves were winless for the vast majority of 2019. The "Lack of Weapons" excuse used to keep a flicker of hope alive for Sam seems to be extinguishing. Unless he plays out the season looking like Russell Wilson on PED's playing against 10-year-olds, the writing is on the wall for Darnold here.

On a brighter note, RD2 Rookie Denzel Mims has looked really good, despite the sub-par QB play. Mims became only the 8th Rookie WR since 1970 to post 40+ receiving yards in each of his first 5 games, joining the likes of Andre Johnson, Stefon Diggs, Amari Cooper, and Michael Thomas. He brings something the Jets have lacked for most of Darnold's time here: a big possession guy with a reliable set of hands. Mims looks to have a very bright future and will hopefully help ease Trevor Lawrence's transition to the Pros, should the Jets choose him here.

First impressions of Joe Douglas and his ability to find talent in the draft appear very positive, and one thing that disheartened Jet fans can cling to moving forward. Early signs of his first draft class look impressive, and a lot of expectations will be on our GM to repeat that success, as he tries to transform things, posthaste. We have discussed RD2 Rookie, Mims, a bit in the previous comment and we have sung the praise of the colossus that is Rookie LT Mekhi Becton in previous CMD's, too.

With Bell now in the rear-view mirror, Frank Gore has carried most of the burden since. That has irked fans a little, despite Gore himself looking serviceable in the twilight of his career. Fans want to see another rookie, RB La'Mical Perine (55 Carries, 202 Yds, 2 TD's), get more touches. While there has been a slight increase, it's not enough to get a good look at what he can do. I think regardless of his performance for the remainder of the season, the Jets will still be on the market for a RB, post-Gore. Joe Douglas will be hard pressed to pass on someone with the quality Travis Etienne possesses.

JETS HISTORICAL DRAFT PICKS

Reach/Value (R/V) Explained
The difference between where a player is selected in the NFL draft versus where the player was listed on the final Drafttek Big Board for the season in question.
Example: A player who was listed at #50 on the Big Board and was selected at #35 will be a "Reach" of -15. Alternately, a player listed at #35 on the Big Board who was selected at #50 is a +15 "Value".

Simply put: a positive number is a Value pick, a negative number is a Reach.
