SF g HOU t MIA (Tunsil/2021 draft trade)
We have our first surprise of the night!...sort of. During the pre-draft press conference, John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan asked fans to be patient and trust they would make the right decision. That faith proved to be well-founded, as the Niners have selected the QB with possibly the highest ceiling in the 2021 Draft. Trey Lance only has 17 games under his belt, but he took a ton of snaps under center, had NFL level control at the line of scrimmage, and better pocket presence than Justin Fields (who ranked as a better prosepct).
Lance will need to clean up his footwork to correct accuracy issues that plagued him in college and he faces a big leap in competition from the FCS level, but his ceiling is enormous and the 49ers' future looks bright with him at the helm.

SF g LV (Draft Trade)
With plenty of talented pass catchers and cornerbacks likely to be available later in the draft, the 49ers opt to shore up the interior offensive line. Notre Dame's Aaron Bank's should be able to push for playing time at RG as a rookie and may be viewed as a replacement for LG Laken Tomlinson who is entering a contract year. While I was rooting for Quinn Meinerz, Banks' high football IQ and ability to open holes in the run game makes him a strong fit for the Niners.

SF g LAR (Draft Trade)
After losing Tevin Coleman and Jerick McKinnon to Free Agncy the 49ers replenish their backfield with Trey Sermon. Sermon is a great fit in Shanahan's offense as he has burst, power and excels on outside runs. Sermon is also a sound pass blocker and is underrated as a receiver out of the backfield. Expect Sermon to immediately enter the rotation with Mostert and Jeff Wilson, with the ultimate goal of replacing Mostert as the lead back.

Watching Elijah Molden go just two picks earlier is a little tough, but the 49ers continue their trend of finding ideal scheme fits. Ambry Thomas is a physical press corner who should have adequate size to play as an outside, but might be better served as a nickel. Thomas also adds kick/punt return ability, which was an area of concern last season for the Niners

49ers HISTORICAL DRAFT PICKS
Reach/Value (R/V) Explained
The difference between where a player is selected in the NFL draft versus where the player was listed on the final Drafttek Big Board for the season in question.Example: A player who was listed at #50 on the Big Board and was selected at #35 will be a "Reach" of -15. Alternately, a player listed at #35 on the Big Board who was selected at #50 is a +15 "Value".
Simply put: a positive number is a Value pick, a negative number is a Reach.
