After a dominant performance in a high-pressure environment taking Alabama to the national title, Mac Jones gets a chance to step up to six-time Super Bowl-winner Bill Belichick. The heir apparent to Tom Brady is the top pocket passer in this year's draft, and could be a fit in the precision passing game in Foxboro. Like Brady, Jones has average arm strength, a less-than-chiseled physique and modest footspeed. Whether he will have preternatural accuracy and leadership ability remains to be seen. His ability to read defenses and make intelligent decisions with the ball suggest he has a good chance to revive the Pats' briefly-sagging fortunes.

NE g CIN (Draft Trade)
After waiting patiently for their first-round QB, the Patriots showed no such restraint in trading up to grab a defensive anchor early in Round 2. Christian Barmore is a classic 3-4 nose tackle a la Vince Wifork who brings strength, power, and technique to the middle of a rebuilding Patriots' D-Line. In the process, Bill Belichick adds to his record-setting propensity for drafting Nick Saban players. A fit on so many levels.

The retrenchment of the Patriots' defense continued with an outstanding value grab in Oklahoma Edge Ronnie Perkins. Perkins, while slightly undersized at 240 pounds, is both athletic and consistent, earning PFF grades above 90 in both run and pass defense. He plays with decisiveness and speed and should be an immediate contributor to the new-look Pats this fall.

PATRIOTS HISTORICAL DRAFT PICKS
Reach/Value (R/V) Explained
The difference between where a player is selected in the NFL draft versus where the player was listed on the final Drafttek Big Board for the season in question.Example: A player who was listed at #50 on the Big Board and was selected at #35 will be a "Reach" of -15. Alternately, a player listed at #35 on the Big Board who was selected at #50 is a +15 "Value".
Simply put: a positive number is a Value pick, a negative number is a Reach.
