There's an explosion of sports journalists comparing Mac Jones to Tom Brady! Here's my take on this: there is a perception that Bill Belichick's enormous ego leads him to believe that he can build a championship team with any Tom/Dick/Harry at QB. New England sportswriters, channeling fan angst, really do not want to go into the summer (again) with no viable QB on the roster, then watch Belichick pick up whomever did not survive the Free Agency purge.
"Starting at QB for YOUR 2021 New England Patriots is ...... JOSH ROSEN!!
So yes. Take a smart, if inexperienced, QB with a National Championship to his credit and all the confidence in the world. Draft Mac Jones over a shattered tenant of the NFL QB Rescue Foundation.

In RD1 the Patriots drafted who they believe to be their future at the Quarterback position. Now, they take Trey Smith to bolster an offensive line that could be losing Joe Thuney and David Andrews. Smith is a two time All-Sec First team selection and 2020 Second Team All-American. After taking Mac Jones they provide him with a young lineman to help give him time to deliver passes.

PATRIOTS HISTORICAL DRAFT PICKS
Reach/Value (R/V) Explained
The difference between where a player is selected in the NFL draft versus where the player was listed on the final Drafttek Big Board for the season in question.Example: A player who was listed at #50 on the Big Board and was selected at #35 will be a "Reach" of -15. Alternately, a player listed at #35 on the Big Board who was selected at #50 is a +15 "Value".
Simply put: a positive number is a Value pick, a negative number is a Reach.
