For the first time in what feels like 1000 years, the Seahawks don't trade down from their first pick. Instead they opt to select the former Bulldog, Charles Cross. The last time GM John Schneider opted to draft an OT this high, they got a Pro-Bowl tackle in Russell Okung. With Duane Brown unsigned, the blindside protector became a massive need for Seattle and a quality prospect fell into their lap. Cross is more of a zone blocker in the running game, further signifying that Pete Carroll and Shane Waldron want to move into a more Rams style blocking scheme.

SEA g DEN (R Wilson)
Seattle needs more pass rush, especially with the switch to a 3-4 base front. Mafe was a LB often tasked with rushing the opposing quarterback and projects more as a 3-4 EDGE rusher.
His numbers as a pass rusher are disappointing, with most of his damage coming against inferior competition. He's also not particularly adept at stopping the run. Hopefully Seattle can bring out the best in him.

This is a bit of a head-scratcher. Both Chris Carson and Rashaad Penny are on the roster for 2022, but they are injury prone. Walker was a monster at MSU, but he has a lot of miles on his tires already with 499 total touches in his collegiate career.
A QB might have made more sense (you can't bank on 2023 being a good QB class), or a corner, or another lineman - offensive or defensive.

Schneider and Carroll double-dipping on OT early in the draft? Yeah, this isn't a dream. Lucas is another large and athletic tackle that shows good balance. With the current state of the roster, he should be competing for a starting spot on the right side. It's also nice to see Seattle be able to nab a local boy in the draft.

SEAHAWKS HISTORICAL DRAFT PICKS
Reach/Value (R/V) Explained
The difference between where a player is selected in the NFL draft versus where the player was listed on the final Drafttek Big Board for the season in question.Example: A player who was listed at #50 on the Big Board and was selected at #35 will be a "Reach" of -15. Alternately, a player listed at #35 on the Big Board who was selected at #50 is a +15 "Value".
Simply put: a positive number is a Value pick, a negative number is a Reach.
