Brian Asamoah NFL Draft photo
ILB Brian Asamoah from Oklahoma is 6'0 226 and ran a 4.56 forty. He is undersized but has sideline to sideline speed. He has some pass coverage skills and could become a standout on special teams.

Considering Nakobe Dean was still on the board, practically the same size, and even with Dean's injury that needs surgery, the Vikings would have had a slam dunk draft if they took Dean here.

After grabbing high-end Evan Neal, Giants continue to build up their offensive line with Joshua Ezeudu. Ezeudu is an elite athlete with the versatility to play both guard and tackle.

Ezeudu, who was credited with giving up just two sacks over the past three seasons, will need to clean up his technique but has starting caliber traits.

I'm a bit shocked by this one. The Browns made Denzel Ward the top-paid corner in football recently, and have taken Greg Newsome and Greedy Williams with top-50 picks in two of the last three drafts. You can never have enough good corners, and Emerson has exceptional length with 33.5 -inch arms. Just thought: a linebacker, edge rusher or wide receiver made more sense with an early third-round pick. Grade: C-

Snagging a starting-caliber tackle in Round 3 could be a plum for the Titans but comes with some risk. Nicholas-Frere came out of high school as a top national recruit and had a solid career at Ohio State. He has above-average athleticism but struggles against power moves like the ones Michigan's Aidan Hutchinson broke out last November. Grade: B

This is a something of a surprise pick after grabbing Devin Lloyd earlier in the draft, but it's great value as many had Muma as the #2 LB in the draft. Muma hails from Wyoming, where last year's star Bengal draftee Logan Wilson played.

Velus Jones Jr. NFL Draft photo
Velus Jones Jr. joins Chicago undermanned receiving corps and brings a bagful of intriguing talents. Jones is an excellent returner, but has the size and speed to become a valuable, and productive, weapon in Chicago's offense.

Jones needs some work, but the potential is there. Ryan Poles is doing a good job, so far, addressing the team's major positional needs.

Schneider and Carroll double-dipping on OT early in the draft? Yeah, this isn't a dream. Lucas is another large and athletic tackle that shows good balance. With the current state of the roster, he should be competing for a starting spot on the right side. It's also nice to see Seattle be able to nab a local boy in the draft.

Jelani Woods NFL Draft photo
Jelani Woods is a dynamic athlete and has good speed, once he can fully open his stride. With continued growth as a blocker and overall time on task as a WR, Woods could settle into a TE2 role at the next level and will be especially effective in 12-personnel. Woods is a very athletic TE prospect for the Colts and a great value in the early 3rd Round.

Desmond Ridder NFL Draft photo
Atlanta needs a long-term solution at QB. They have decided to roll the dice on Ridder, who likely has a high floor as an above replacement level QB. If he can improve his accuracy and footwork, he can be the long-term answer.

Certainly having a year of seasoning while Mariota gets killed behind that OL is a good plan. Ridder is a "winner" and a high character leader. Atlanta doesn't have to reach and can see if Ridder is "the guy." For value and need? A-

Christian Harris NFL Draft photo
Christian Harris is a three-year starter for the Crimson Tide defense, holding the job since he was a true freshman. Harris possesses a strong upper body and a built, powerful lower half. Combined with this frame, Harris is also an exceptional athlete who thrives at playing in space. Harris has the versatility to cover backs out of the backfield and run with TEs vertically up the seams. In the run game, he's a physically dominant presence that can lay the boom on ball-carriers!

The Ravens are good at drafting and the best player available philosophy is working beautifully. Travis Jones is another great value pick for DeCosta/Harbaugh -- a nimble D Tackle who has starter potential. Michael Pierce returned to the team in Free Agency, but Jones will be the long-term replacement for Brandon Williams.

Bernhard Raimann is an international player who originally hails from Austria. He came to Central Michigan initially as a TE while also competing in wrestling and track & field. Wright is a tall, raw pass rusher with terrific arm length at 34 inches. Cleveland is going to have to show some patience with him, and the best-case scenario as a rookie would be Wright earning snaps as a pass-rush specialist. Still, the potential is high, and considering Myles Garrett is on the other side, the reward could be a dynamic pass-rush duo. Grade: B+

With Noah Fant being shipped out as part of the package to bring Russell Wilson to town, the Broncos were thought to be looking for an athletic tight end. Dulcich fits the bill as a tight end made some big plays at UCLA. I love the play speed, and he is a load when he gets moving. His skill set compliments Albert Okwuegbunam very well, and I thought Dulcich would be long gone by now. Grade: A

The Giants check off another of our top-priority needs with CB Cordale Flott. Flott allowed a passer rating of 73.3 last season with a completion percentage of just 51.1%. Still just 20 years old, Flott pairs above-average athletic traits with inside-outside flexibility. Despite being a bit of a reach, Flott’s versatility and physical play style will be a welcome addition to the Giants’ secondary.

Did we mention Atlanta needed pass rushers? DeAngelo Malone is an undersized but explosive 3-4 OLB with 34 career sacks. He needs a little bulk, and Atlanta has not done anything to address the interior of the DL or their run defense. But they have added a lot of athleticism to their pass rush on Day Two, which was a crying need for this roster. A-

Nakobe Dean NFL Draft photo
The Eagles' patience pays huge dividends as they land a borderline RD 1 talent in the third. A pec injury sent LB Nakobe Dean's draft stock plummeting and his availability for 2022 is in question. While having to fully redshirt Dean for a year isn't ideal, the Eagles have enough talent to hold up with the free agent addition of Kyzir White.

Even if Dean doesn't see the field until 2023 adding a player with his leadership and ability to diagnose plays is well worth the 83rd overall pick.

The Steelers curiously add a player to the deepest position on the roster. This pick may mean that the return of DE Stephon Tuitt may be less likely than the team’s lip service has made it seem.

Regardless, the team passed up a chance to add depth at OT or to pick a safety to groom as a 2023 starter to add a developmental player with no immediate path to a starting role.

An undersized player, Marcus Jones, is still one of the DraftTek favored CBs. He showed productivity in both the slot and outside cornerback positions.

He is also a valuable kick and punt returner -- over 2,000 kick return yards and 6 TDs, and over 800 punt return yards with 3 TDs. He can be overmatched by larger receivers, but is scrappy and a secure tackler.

Malik Willis, the dynamic dual-threat QB with exceptional ability to make plays on the run and make high-velocity throws, finally finds a home.. in Tennessee! The "small school" prospect threw for 2,857 yds and 27 TDs; plus, added 878 yds and 13 more TDs using his legs. Built like an RB, Willis is perfectly built for modern RPO offense. In our efforts to rate him, the DraftTek Big Board team compiled his stats against other top prospects. Here are the results sorted by PFF grade:
  • Willis: PFF (94) TD (11) INT (0) Comp % (71) Rush yards (425)
  • Corral: PFF (87.5) TD (10) INT (0) Comp % (69.6) Rush yards (161)

Tolbert has a lot of same strengths as Michael Gallup -- a guy with smooth athleticism that thrives in 50-50 situations. The Cowboys don't take a lot of deep shots, but when they do, it's typically on the perimeter in one-on-one scenarios that are sniffed out pre-snap.

Having these two on each side with Lamb wreaking havoc from the slot is an ideal situation for Dallas, and I thought Tolbert would come off the board in round two. Grade: A

Dylan Parham NFL Draft photo
With one of the weakest OL units in the NFL - the sole detraction from an otherwise lethal looking offense - it has long looked likely that the team would give strong consideration to the group when they finally picked late on Day 2. It's a little surprising that Parham, a Guard or Center, was the selection over a RT - and honestly I was hoping that Nakobe Dean might fall just a bit farther (and, I was intrigued by the possibility of Malik Willis as QB2).

This doesn't feel like a reach, but it does set up a potential logjam/intense competition for the two guard spots. The team did pick up an extra 5th rounder for trading down as the Raiders seek to add depth on Day 3.

White is a versatile playere with similar size and running style to Arian Foster. He's a tall, one-cut runner that shows patience as a runner, but can also get going in a hurry when he sticks his foot in the ground. Like Foster, he is also a surprising receiver for his size with quick feet that make sharp cuts to get him separation. He needs to break more tackles, but his contact balance will improve as he adds weight to his long frame. Grade: B

Though Sean Rhyan took all but three of his 2,150 career snaps at LT, he profiles as an interior lineman at the next level. Rhyan, who has a 9.35 RAS at guard, has allowed just one sack and 24 pressures over his past 19 starts. The addition of Rhyan probably indicates that Elgton Jenkins is in the Packers' long-term plans at RT.

After losing Raheem Morris to free agency and spending considerable time meeting with RBs in the lead up to the draft, it was only a matter of time before the Niners expanded their ground attack. It feels a bit early, considering the need at interior OL, but with Parham off the board, the value was iffy.

Ty Davis-Price displays the vision and burst to excel in Shanahan's system and makes a good running mate for Eli Mitchell, but could cast a shadow over 2021 RD 3 pick Trey Sermon's future.

The Carolina Panthers finally did it!

After flirting with the possibility of trading for embattled Cleveland Browns QB Baker Mayfield, the Panthers trade into the 3rd round to select QB Matt Corral! Corral has a short, compact throwing motion which he uses to generate a ton of torque and velocity on his throws. Matt is a highly mobile dual-threat QB who can extend the play outside of the pocket and locate receivers downfield with touch and accuracy. He will need time to develop, but there is a chance Matt outshines Sam Darnold in training camp.

Bell is a polished wide receiver that has great body control and ball skills. He gets clean releases off the snap and leverages his routes to get good separation that helps him overcome average athleticism and size. Despite a slow 40 time at the Combine, this is a reliable target that knows how to make himself available for his quarterback.

I thought he'd go late in the third round, and the Browns are happy to add him as part of their rebuild of the receiving core. Grade: B+
