Atlanta faces a critical inflection point in its franchise history. Whether Arthur Smith wants to admit it or not, Atlanta is rebuilding as it moves away from the best player in its history in Matt Ryan. Salary cap constraints have prohibited Atlanta from making marquee signings and they are relying on a distressingly high number of players to greatly improve in order to be competitive.
One of the critical storylines this year - for the first time since 2007 - is who will be the quarterback come the end of the season. Will Marcus Mariota resurrect his career prospects? Will Desmond Ridder "make them pay" as he vowed on draft night? If Ridder seizes the job in his best impression of Russell Wilson, then Atlanta's 2023 draft choices open wide. If he and Mariota struggle, Atlanta could be in a position - both via need and draft pick - to select the best QB in a seemingly more talented class than 2022's.
Bryce Young will be competing with CJ Stroud for that honor, but Young's performance late in 2022 probably has him edging ahead of Stroud on draft boards. Ideally for Arthur Smith, Ridder turns into the draft steal that resurrects a struggling franchise. If not, he's positioned to take a franchise signal caller in next year's draft.

FALCONS HISTORICAL DRAFT PICKS
Reach/Value (R/V) Explained
The difference between where a player is selected in the NFL draft versus where the player was listed on the final Drafttek Big Board for the season in question.Example: A player who was listed at #50 on the Big Board and was selected at #35 will be a "Reach" of -15. Alternately, a player listed at #35 on the Big Board who was selected at #50 is a +15 "Value".
Simply put: a positive number is a Value pick, a negative number is a Reach.
