In our Mock, I wrote that it would be malpractice to pass on Wilson if he were available at #7. The versatile and lengthy Red Raider gives the Silver & Black an elite, young pass rusher to pair with Maxx Crosby. A team that was 27th in sacks and 29th in pass defense now adds a bonafide star to its lackluster defense.
While it would have been difficult to screw up this selection based on how the Draft played out, Vegas displayed discipline by not reaching for biggest need (CB), taking a QB with big question marks, or taking likely bust Jalen Carter. Tyree Wilson is a smart pick who will line up in a variety of spots in Year 1 and make this team better. His addition will allow them to move on from Chandler Jones as soon as contractually possible, and provide great value at one of the NFL's premier positions. The right trade down would have been nice, but this is 100% the right selection at #7.

After dealing Darren Waller, the Raiders were able to make the position respectable by signing Austin Hooper and OJ Howard. Now, the franchise lands our #17 overall prospect and #1 TE in Michael Mayer - a do-it-all, old-school prospect who can make plays in the passing game and deliver punishing blocks. It would not be surprising to see the Notre Dame product earn the TE1 designation early, and this selection puts the offense in a really strong position. While I like the pick (and am VERY glad the trade up was not for a middling QB like Hendon Hooker), Cam Smith, O'Cyrus Torrence, or Trenton Simpson probably would have been preferred selections here. Still, you cannot argue with the value, and, for better or worse, this does seem to be a "Patriots-esque" selection.

Successful teams are built through the trenches, and that's a philosophy McDaniels and Ziegler have clearly bought into in Vegas. Six of the duo's nine draft picks since taking the helm of the franchise have been linemen, and Byron Young should provide some depth along the defensive front. Still, he's a big reach - our Board had him at #145 - and he's essentially a big body with some versatility and middling athleticism. He's a dime-a-dozen type prospect who is eerily similar to the team's Matthew Butler selection last year. With prospects like Kelee Ringo and Trenton Simpson still available, this is a poor selection.

In what might be the biggest reach of the Draft, the Raiders select a Tre Tucker of Cincinnati - a fast but small receiver to compete with DeAndre Carter and Hunter Renfrow. Our Board had him in the UDFA range, and nothing about him screams "Day 2 worthy." After opening the Draft with two excellent, high value selections, the Raiders have followed up with headscratchers while ignoring glaring needs.

RAIDERS HISTORICAL DRAFT PICKS
Reach/Value (R/V) Explained
The difference between where a player is selected in the NFL draft versus where the player was listed on the final Drafttek Big Board for the season in question.Example: A player who was listed at #50 on the Big Board and was selected at #35 will be a "Reach" of -15. Alternately, a player listed at #35 on the Big Board who was selected at #50 is a +15 "Value".
Simply put: a positive number is a Value pick, a negative number is a Reach.
