The message for Carolina going into 2025 is simple. Completely rebuild the defense.
You have to be pretty bad to achieve with the Panthers did in 2024. Carolina's defense gave up an astounding 534 points this season, which is an NFL record previously held by the Baltimore Colts, who allowed 533 back in 1981. What made matters more confusing to Panthers fans is the decision by rookie head coach Dave Canales to retain Ejiro Evero. Love it or hate it, Dave Canales wants to give GM Dan Morgan an opportunity to further build the defense with more talent and aggressive front 7 players.
After losing Brian Burns last off-season, the selection couldn't be more clear. The Carolina Panthers select Abdul Carter out of Penn State!
At 6'3" 262 lbs, Carter has proven himself to be a premier EDGE defender in 2024 after primarily playing off ball LB for tthe past two years. Carter showcases limitless potential as a pass rusher. Abdul uses a potent blend of speed and explosion to overwhelm tackles with a powerful bull rush in enough dexterity to bend around the edge and finish to the QB. Against the run, Carter is dynamic when shooting gaps and tackling ball-carriers behind the line of scrimmage. Carter has on multiple occasions demonstrated the ability to beat pulling guards and shedding blocks for tackles for loss.

PANTHERS HISTORICAL DRAFT PICKS
Reach/Value (R/V) Explained
The difference between where a player is selected in the NFL draft versus where the player was listed on the final Drafttek Big Board for the season in question.Example: A player who was listed at #50 on the Big Board and was selected at #35 will be a "Reach" of -15. Alternately, a player listed at #35 on the Big Board who was selected at #50 is a +15 "Value".
Simply put: a positive number is a Value pick, a negative number is a Reach.
