Nick Bosa Scouting Report image

While it seems too easy, the comparison for Nick Bosa is his brother, Joey, who has dominated for the Chargers... when he is healthy. Are both of the Bosa brothers immensely talented, possibly prototypical EDGE players that might never stay healthy? Only time will tell. When Nick is on the field, he is a dominant EDGE defender. Most proficient pass-rushers are not also effective in the run game, but Bosa sets a violent edge against the run and uses his hands well in order to avoid getting washed out on the line.

Against the pass, Bosa starts with immediate reactions off the line and rare burst, getting to full speed quickly. Bosa employs the same swipe/swim move his brother does, but he also uses that dominant outside-in countermove that scare quarterbacks to death. While he doesn't have rare bend around the edge that a true speed-rusher might, his flexibility around the edge is rare and he has the balance to finish when he gets into the pocket. He uses his hands effectively to keep lineman out of his chest and he fights off tackles that get an advantageous jump on him.

Bosa's most special attribute might be his football character. His motor is absolutely relentless, as he can be seen running down plays from the backside when his team is up by 20+. He studies hard and is always where he should be. He fits his gaps and is rarely taken out of any given play. After the snap, he has great eyes and processes efficiently, reacting to a play seemingly before it even gets started.

Bosa is a prototypical EDGE rusher and should be the first defensive player picked in this draft. The only question with him is if he can stay healthy, as he has missed two out of his last four seasons of football due to injury.
