2023 NFL Mock Draft

Selection Comment - Pick #23

Return to Mock Draft

Broderick Jones

Despite all the effort to fix the OL in the offseason, the offensive tackle play continues to plague the Bengals and star QB Joe Burrow. RT La'el Collins is awful, with a cellar-dwelling 49.7 PFF grade punctuated by 26 pressures surrendered (through Week 12). LOT Jonah Williams was a #11 overall pick in 2019, but is not playing like one. He missed his rookie season, but rebounded in 2020 with a quality first-year showing (20 pressures, 75.8 PFF). He regressed in 2021, but the Bengals extended Williams anyway, now under contract to 2023. Unfortunately, Jonah has not ascended to an elite level in 2022 (that is expected of a #11 pick), his play a redux of 2021 (a PFF grading of 65.5).

Suffice it to say, any old Fred can replace Collins, and Williams, well his play suggests that he too can be upgraded. Drafting a quality tackle like Broderick Jones here will allow the best tackle pairing of Jones and Williams in 2023. Beyond that time, the team will be able to re-evaluate Williams for a new contract.
