2023 NFL Mock Draft

Selection Comment - Pick #28

Return to Mock Draft

Brian Branch

The Vikings season is going incredibly well. They are 9-2 and are sitting comfortably atop their division with a five game lead over over their closest rival, the Lions (!?!). They have 6 games left to play and could clinch a playoff spot as early as December 4th. Minnesota is 17th in yards per game and 12th in points per game on offense. They are 31st in yards per game and 21st in points per game on defense. Their point differential is only plus 5. Yet, the team is finding ways to win games - a sign of resiliency at the very least. The good news is they have yet to play their best game which hopefully comes in the the playoffs.

The team signed cornerbacks Patrick Peterson and Chandon Sullivan to one year deals this past offseason. Peterson is graded as the 5th best CB according to PFF. Sullivan is 79th. Cameron Danztler missed the last three games and missed some time his frst two years as well. Rookie Andrew Booth Jr. played 105 snaps and is out for the season. Rookie Akayleb Evans has played 112 snaps and is recovering from a concussion. The Cornerback position could be very thin next year but the promise of Dantzler, Booth, and Evans is encouraging. The team could bring back Peterson next year at age 33 which seems like a good bet. Still, you can never have enough players at the position especially in today's NFL.

Brian Branch is listed at the STAR position and has played 537 out of 796 snaps in the slot position. Nick Saban described him as "a good tackler, a good blitzer, a good cover guy on a slot player, which is different than a good cover guy on an outside player." Branch is 6-0 193 and will likely run a sub 4.5 40-yard dash. He is an excellent tackler and has a couple of sacks this year. He seems like a perfect replacement for Sullivan if the Vikings do not extend him.
