Return to Mock Draft

Jordan Addison

The beginning of the Jeff Saturday era in Indianapolis has been anything but predictable. After proving the doubters wrong with a win over the struggling Las Vegas Raiders, the Colts looked poised to shock the world, and Bill Cowher, after taking the then-undefeated Eagles to the brink. Heading into Monday night against Pittsburgh, the same effort was expected. But it wasn't there.

The Colts came out stumbling, failing to complete a pass until 7:05 left in the second quarter, and had just four first downs in the first half. The offensive line, which had kept Matt Ryan mostly clean the last two weeks, failed to do so against an aggressive Steelers pass rush. The pressure caused Ryan to panic in the pocket and was forced multiple misplays. Running back Jonathan Taylor also had a crucial fumble at the one-yard line on a handoff exchange, costing the Colts a sorely needed score.

Despite all the mistakes, the Colts were in it to the end. The Taylor fumble would have given Indianapolis the lead pending the extra point, and the team again had a chance to tie it late. But Saturday's coaching inexperience revealed itself while the Colts struggled down the field in a last-gasp comeback effort, all while refusing to take a single of its three timeouts until after an inexplicable run play with under a minute left.

With the struggles on the line and the lack of weapons in the receiving corps, along with a quarterback likely on his way out, the offense simply lacks the firepower and overall consistency to put games away. The problems worsen as the most expensive offensive line in the league may hinder the team's ability to make big splashes in free agency and re-sign solid pieces on the defense like Yannick Ngakoue, who just crossed 8 sacks for the seventh straight time in his career. Problems are everywhere as the Colts limp to the finish line. But no rest for the weary with another primetime matchup in Dallas against one of the top teams in the league.
