The first 4 weeks of the 2024 season started off promisingly enough with a win over the Rams, and giving the mighty Bills and Lions all they could handle on the road. But the house of Cards collapsed in glorious fashion against the Commanders, and rookie sensation Jayden Daniels in Week 4.
I must say I expected more defensively from Jonathan Gannon's team after a 2023 season where the D exceeded the sum of it's parts. True, the Cards have faced high powered offenses thru Week 4, but thus far the Cards rank 29th in points allowed at 26.8 ppg. Teams have especially found success running the ball against Arizona, average 146.8 ypg (28th ranked). The Cards haven't gotten much out of their defensive rookies to date.
It looks like it will be Week 6 until RD1 pick DL Darius Robinsion makes his debut. He's been on IR, as has been RD3 CB Elijah Jones. Rookie RD2 pick CB Max Melton has seen about 15 snaps per game in a spot duty capacity, roughly the same usage rate as RD6 EDGE Xavier Thomas. If Melton and (Elijah) Jones can progress in this the 2024 season, we'll pivot off of CB as a primary 2025 Draft target, and over to the DL.
